Midnight Oud
Ard Al Zaafaran
“Incense, smoke and leather after midnight — dark, dramatic and priced like a secret.”
Interlude Man opens on oregano, a strange way to start a fragrance and half the reason people either worship it or can't stand it. Midnight Oud keeps the oregano. It keeps nearly everything, in fact: pimento and bergamot beside it up top, olibanum, opoponax, amber and labdanum through the heart, oud, leather, sandalwood and patchouli at the base. That's the Amouage pyramid line for line, with pimento standing in for pepper.
It wears big, too: 8–10 hours, and a trail that hangs in a doorway after you've gone through it, so two sprays is plenty. At $15–$25 against Amouage's $335–$455, Interlude stops being the bottle you save for special occasions and becomes one you reach for on an ordinary night in January. See the full breakdown.
