Chanel No. 5
ChanelEDP
“A century of confidence distilled into one spray — nothing left to prove.”
There is no honest version of this page without No. 5. Aldehydes give it that famous soapy sparkle up top over ylang-ylang, neroli, and peach; iris, jasmine, rose, and lily-of-the-valley fill the middle; sandalwood, oakmoss, and vanilla close it. It has been the reference for formal perfumery since 1921, and standing in a room full of evening wear is still the setting where it makes the most sense.
It is also better suited to a modern formal evening than its reputation suggests — fall and winter are its strongest seasons and it leans evening without being confined to it. It runs 6–8 hours with projection that reaches across a table.
At $100–$200 the EDP is the version to buy. Buy it if you want a perfume nobody will ever question, at an event where being questioned is the last thing you want. See the full breakdown.
