Acqua di Parma

Colonia Essenza

EDC2010

“Italian citrus with grown-up shoulders — refined warm-weather formality.”

Colonia Essenza
citrus
aromatic
white floral

Released in 2010 as a flanker to Acqua di Parma's 1916 Colonia, Colonia Essenza keeps the house's citrus-aromatic cologne structure in a matte black version of the Art Deco bottle. Neroli and bergamot open over an aromatic heart, settling on vetiver and oakmoss. Citrus leads the accords by a wide margin, with aromatic, white-floral and fresh-spicy facets. Worn mostly in spring and summer, during the day.

The take

What works

  • ●Italian-cologne tradition done right — citrus that doesn't go thin
  • ●Vetiver-and-clove base gives it gravity most colognes lack
  • ●Effortlessly versatile for warm-weather formal wear

Trade-offs

  • ●Cologne concentration means short ride — 4–5 hours
  • ●Premium pricing for what reads as 'expensive soap' to some
  • ●Traditional profile may feel old-school next to modern aquatics
